Flat

In trading, the term “flat” typically refers to a situation where a trader has no open positions or exposure to a particular asset or market. Being flat can also refer to a period of time when a market or asset is experiencing very little price movement or volatility. This can occur during periods of low trading volume or when market participants are uncertain about the direction of the market.

Traders may take different approaches during periods of flat market conditions, such as waiting for a trend to emerge, using range trading strategies, or seeking opportunities in other markets.
